Baked delights: Bread

Bread. Arguably one of the most enjoyable foods around. Other than bacon that is. My personal foray into the world of bread making started many years ago and involved a bread machine. Of course I was a different person back then. Appliances like that did not garner the intense animosity from me that they do now. That said, the machine could not keep up with my passion and passed from this world in a not so peaceful manner. Now I know what some of you may be thinking, so I’ll clarify. No. I did not smash it. Instead, I burned out the motor. LOL! After I moved from an apartment and into a house I decided to give it a try again. This time I enlisted the help of a stand mixer. A KitchenAid Pro 500. After a while I found that it wasn’t quite up to the task, so I upgraded to the Pro 600. Unfortunately it was one of the early models that had the plastic/fiberglass gear housing cover. Yeah, I destroyed that thing in a rather spectacular fashion. It’s simply mind boggling how cheaply made this consumer stuff is. Anyway, after getting replacement parts and an upgraded metal housing, I was back in business. Of course as time went on, I found that this model would not be able to keep up any longer either. So before I completely fried it, I decided to give it a new home. A place where it could live out its days in relative comfort. That left me with no mixer for a time, but it did allow me to weigh my options on what to replace it with. A commercial model!

I give you the Avantco MX10:

Just a wee bit of difference between the two. I had to borrow the old one back just to get this picture. 😉

The MX10 is a powerhouse in spite of the description that it is for light duty use. You can clearly see the difference in size between the two. It’s far quieter that the KitchenAid as well. Pay no attention to the backdrop. You see my kitchen is in a constant state of flux. Someday I’ll figure out how it should look. Anyway, enough of that. Let me talk about bread and how you can obtain some for your dining pleasure.

Each loaf weighs a little over 2 lbs. (1000 gr). Some, like the cinnamon raisin, are a bit heavier. With the exception of the yeast, salt, and water, all of the ingredients are certified organic, or chemically free non-GMO. This of course makes the price a tad higher than what you can get at the grocery store, but it is something I take pride in and as such, will not compromise. In simple terms that means don’t even bother to ask because it will not happen. NO exceptions. All prices subject to change depending on the cost of ingredients and your attitude. I should also add that this is for local pick-up and delivery only. I do not ship. So unless you live close to me, you’re out of luck.

More examples will be listed as soon as I get more pictures. Sliced loaves are an option, but they tend to dry out faster. My advice would be to invest in a decent bread knife and learn to do it yourself. Offset bread knives are the best option. Alrighty then. Now taking orders. 🙂
